fitting : An appliance comprising an internal fluid flow channel and at least one fitment to which another appliance may be fitted.
Most fittings have two fitments—because most fittings are two-way fittings, such as a pipe nipple or an elbow. Some examples:
If you seek a compatible fitting, the fitment to which you are attaching is what matters. Many fittings have more than one type of fitment.
